January 23-29: Baltimore Salsa
Congratulations to SalsaNow for a successful opening night last weekend for Ritmo de la Noche, a monthly party at an elegant ballroom. While there, I had the opportunity to dance with a friend who always challenges me. Sometimes I follow. Sometimes, I say, "oops, sorry" and smile. He's a regular salsa enthusiast who decided to convert his knowledge into bite sized video lessons on YouTube. Check out his blog for some free online training at www.thesalsageek.com. For a taste of the newest and hottest moves from around the world, buy a full pass to the 3rd Annual Baltimore Salsa Fest. The event is held March 30-April 1 at the Crowne Plaza Timonium. Days are filled with back-to-back workshops and therefore, lots to remember, but don't worry. Bring along your iPhone or other recording device. Time is set aside at the end of each lesson for you to videotape the experts for your personal viewing later on, you know, once you forget half of what you learned. Go ahead, watch it over and over and over again. It's okay, we all do it! The cool part is that these instructors purposely demonstrate the entire lesson at the end so that you can "legally" record what they taught you. Just don't try to sell it, that would be wrong. Find out what's in store for this 2 day 3 night event at www.baltimoresalsafest.com.

3rd Annual Baltimore Salsa Fest
What is the Baltimore Salsa Fest?
Little History....Baltimore Salsa Fest, founded by Kaya Barraza and Sue Elliott began with a two day event March 26-27, 2010. Performers and instructors came from Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, and Washington, DC. The evening showcase was followed by a hot night of dancing to Edwin Ortiz y La Orquesta La Romana accompanied by DJ Sonero (Miguel Morales). BTW, Sonero did a fantastic job as the Master of Ceremonies announcing the team performances. I would highly recommend him for your event. For the 2011 event March 25-27, La Romana returned and we added Joe Falero and the DC Latin Jazz All Stars plus DJ Dany Joshua (NJ) as the Master of Ceremonies.
