What is the Baltimore Salsa Fest?

Prepare your dance shoes and attire because KayaDance is bringing the most amazing full weekend salsa party you can imagine to Maryland, the Third Annual Baltimore Salsa Fest. The event will be held March 30 - April 1, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza in Timonium, Maryland located at 2004 Greenspring Drive. Yes - KayaDance secured the hotel for the entire weekend this coming year. This amazing event will feature entertainment and workshops that will rock everyone from the most advanced dancer to the person who is reading this saying to themselves, “what in the world is Salsa?!” For those who know I was co-director with Kaya Barraza for the 2010 and 2011 events, I want to inform you that I am no longer affiliated with the 2012 event. 2012 Showcase and Instructors:

What if I am brand new to Salsa dancing? There is a special survival challenge/bootcamp carved out just for you. All you need to know is the basic steps, forward, back, cumbia, and right hand turn. You will learn that in every local beginner class. Bring that foundation with you and sign up for the Advanced Beginner Survival Challenge. In this class, you will study a basic salsa choreography for 4 hours and a basic bachata choreography for 4 hours. Those who are interested, may choose to showcase their new talent on stage at the Sunday night party. |
Little History....Baltimore Salsa Fest, founded by Kaya Barraza and Sue Elliott began with a two day event March 26-27, 2010. Performers and instructors came from Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, and Washington, DC. The evening showcase was followed by a hot night of dancing to Edwin Ortiz y La Orquesta La Romana accompanied by DJ Sonero (Miguel Morales). BTW, Sonero did a fantastic job as the Master of Ceremonies announcing the team performances. I would highly recommend him for your event. For the 2011 event March 25-27, La Romana returned and we added Joe Falero and the DC Latin Jazz All Stars plus DJ Dany Joshua (NJ) as the Master of Ceremonies.
