How do I protect my favorite venue?
- Do what you love. Go dancing.
- Make a decision on your favorite venue (e.g. Latin Palace on Fridays).
- Invest your time and money into making that night a success.
- Go to that venue every week.
- Practice becoming a better dancer.
- Pay the cover charge with a smile.
- Buy water to hydrate yourself and/or alcohol for liquid courage.
- Introduce salsa to someone new.
In this list, I am referring to "venue security". When you find a place/night that you love, protect it with your time, energy, money, and good will. Otherwise, those involved in the "deal" will fail, the night will close, and you will regret it. Just listen to the old timers who miss Gardels and Club One. The community must protect the night. It is your responsibility.
Take special care with the "Free" nights. If those involved in the "deal" do not make money, the free night will disappear. At these venues, you must invest even more money in food and beverages. The business must turn a profit to then pay the instructor and DJ. The average expense is $500 for both. Add a band and the cost triples or quadruples.
