Barbara Bernstein is the director of DanceInTimeProductions (www.DanceInTime.com) and teaches Salsa & Rueda in DC/VA/MD/Baltimore. Her dance background includes training in Foreign Folk Dance, Ballroom (Smooth and Latin) as well as Salsa. Barb formerly taught Mathematics at a small liberal arts college, and loves to teach. As a full-time dance instructor since 2001, she has developed many instructional aids for students including instructional videos, a Rhythm and Timing CD, chants describing dance moves, etc. She runs classes all over the DC and Baltimore metropolitan areas and beyond.
Barb directs several dance teams including Professional and Student Rueda Teams, and an all-Women's Group that performs other dances including fusion presentations. These teams have represented DanceInTime at Salsa Congress Performances in Miami, New York, Puerto Rico, Washington, and Philadelphia. In addition, Bernstein has produced and performed in shows with her teams on many stages such as the Kennedy Center, the Verizon Center, the DC Convention Center, etc. She and some of her team members taught Salsa to the Ravens' Cheer Squad as a team building exercise.
For her efforts, on 3/31/04, Barb received Washington's prestigious "Annual Tribute To Women in Salsa" Award for "outstanding dedication to the promotion of a vibrant Salsa community." And she was chosen to judge the "World Amateur Salsa/Rueda Championship Contest" at the first two Salsa Rueda Congresses in Miami (fall of 2004 & 2005). She also judged a competition and taught a "Mega-class" at the Salsa Rueda Competition in Vancouver Canada in April, 2005. She also taught Cuban Salsa workshops at the St. Patrick Salsa Festival in Dublin Ireland in March, 2011.
In past years, Bernstein's dance group was featured in an article in the Washington Post's Weekend Section, as well as being the cover article in the Post's Prince Georges Section. In addition, the group appeared live on TV on the Fox Five Morning News with newscaster Holly Morris. She has written and published many articles on teaching methods and educational psychology in professional journals, and enjoys writing about dance as well! She wrote and published a short booklet to educate audiences on the history and rhythms of Salsa, Rueda, and other Latin dances. She has written articles for dance websites and electronic publications (e.g. Salsaweb, SalsaFreak, and Candela Magazine) as well as printed magazines such as Sabor and is a regular contributor to DC's "The Scene" Magazine.

CLASS INFORMATION:
1. DC/VIRGINIA
Saturday classes pick up again starting Jan. 21 at the Emergence Community Arts Collective (733 Euclid Street NW Washington, DC 20001) from 1 to 3:30 pm. All levels are covered. We'll start out with some wonderful subs: Yvonne, Cedric, etc. running the class and Barb returns to teach a few weeks later. Cost $10. Accessible by public transportation---see bottom of this email.
2. BALTIMORE AREA
A 6-week DIT Cuban Salsa session starts at Mobtown Ballroom (861 Washington Boulevard Baltimore, MD 21230) on Feb. 19. Beginners will be at 5 pm and intermediate/adv. at 6 pm. Drop ins are allowed. There is a 50 minute social dance practice session for students after class, from 7 to 7:50 pm. The class is in 6 week sessions. You can register starting late January online at Mobtown.com or call (425) 218-8197. All prices are set and monies are collected by Mobtown Ballroom. My great colleague, Tabitha (BaltimoreSalsaLessons.com), will be teaching one on one Salsa on the floor concurrently so you can take a session of Cuban and then a session of one on one if you want!
3. MARYLAND SUBURBS
Thursdays in College Park at the U of MD campus. Latin Club Dancing, including basic Cuban Salsa will be 4:30 to 5:30. Intermediate/adv. Cuban Salsa is 5:30 to 6:30 PM. They begin 2/9/12 & are open to public. Register now at301-314-2787 or go to http://stampunion.umd.edu/artlearn/classes.aspx. Class is in the basement of the Student Union next to room B0107. About $5.20 for students and slightly more for public. Sorry, drop-ins not allowed by the university.

Emergence Community Arts Collective (733 Euclid St NW; Washington DC 20001)
By public transportation: Use the Shaw/Howard metro (green line), and come out of the station at the Howard University exit, on 7th St. Make a right (going north) as you exit the station and walk about 6 blocks to Euclid St, (passing the Howard University on the right.) Or take bus 70 or 71 from the metro station to Euclid St.
At Euclid St., turn left and go 1/2 block to the ECAC, on your right. The building has steep stairs in front. Go up and enter through the right hand door and take the inside stairs to the 2nd floor. The studio is right at the top of the stairs.
(You can also take express bus 79, which stops at Howard Place about a block south of Euclid.)
